You have a recording of the whole choir and you need to learn the alto line. Cantor pulls the four parts apart so you can play just yours, as many times as you need, without a keyboard and without asking anyone to sing it into your phone.
Learning a part by ear
Play your part solo to get the notes. Then bring the other three back in quietly and sing along, so you learn how your line moves against the others, which is the thing that actually goes wrong in rehearsal. Cantor's player lets you mute and unmute each voice while the recording plays.
Which line is which
The parts come back labelled soprano, alto, tenor and bass by their range. Where two parts cross or sing in unison for a bar, Cantor can hand a phrase to the wrong part; when that happens you will hear it, and the editor lets you correct a passage by hand.
Recordings that work best
A cappella, reasonably balanced, without heavy echo. A phone recording from the middle of the choir is fine. A recording from the back of a large hall is harder. If there is a soloist, choose the lead vocal setting so the soloist is taken out first.
